I’m here…finally. I feel a bit like a woman is has shown up REALLY late to a party, unsure of how to make an entrance.
I know I am joining thousands of women who have chosen to use blogging as a way to share a variety of things, and who try to make an impact in their own way. Whether it is a personal platform for relaying the journey of motherhood, a vehicle to share amazing recipes, a creative and crafting hotspot, a fashion trend guidebook, and so on…they are all out there in numbers that I have found daunting. So many of these women do it INCREDIBLY well. It has been an inspiration for me.
This blog came to be because, as the stay-at-home mom of a 1 year old and a 3 year old, I needed a way to find balance, to start using the other side of my brain; the side that isn’t exhausted from wiping up smashed food off the floor while wearing old yoga pants all day.
The free time I do have right now I am using to get out to enjoy MY CITY. I was born and raised in Oakland, but I am just recently getting reacquainted with it. It is quite well known these days that Oakland has become THE Bay Area hotspot. There are lots of debates going on over gentrification in our city. As I have gotten underway with the launch of this blog, I have tried to educate myself about both the pros and cons associated with it.
I don’t intend to use this as a platform to jump in on that debate; but I do hope that I can use this site as a vehicle to not only share some of the amazing spaces and places that are planting new roots in Oakland, but to also occasionally highlight our city’s history, communities, and people. Will see how I do.
What does it mean for those of you joining me here? For you I plan to bring a mix of the following:
- Local features on restaurants, shops, parks, landmarks, hikes, walks, neighborhoods, communities, and so on.
- The occasional recipe
- A craft project here and there
- Inspiration boards to point you to other great corners of the web, both local and beyond.
- While this blog is really a way for me to bring a balance back into my life apart from my role as a mom, I can’t promise that you won’t see an occasional parenting related post.
What is my plan for how I will share these things? I plan to post twice a week. One of those posts will have a local focus; the other will likely be a rotation of crafts, inspiration boards, and a recipe or two. If I am feeling ambitious I may throw in a third during certain weeks.
As I learn my way in this blogging world my hope is that I can partner with you to find out what is working and what isn’t. What you want more of or less of. All while staying true to myself. Because the one thing I have read time and time again as I have worked on this endeavor, is that you can’t become something you are not.
So if you like who I am and what I share, I am so happy you are here with me…from my heart I truly do appreciate it.
XO,
Adrienne
PS: I want to give a special thanks to my friend Mara Penny who designed my blog banner, she is a wonderful illustrator based here in Oakland, please check out her work at www.marapenny.com
I would also like to thank Nikki Richter. She is a fabulous local photographer who helped me out with the above pictures. Having your photo taken can always be an awkward thing and she made it easy. You can check out her work at www.nikkirichter.com

[…] Just about one year ago on October 19th, 2015, I wrote my first post as Oakland Momma. I introduced myself, and shared my early morning trip into the fog of Mountain View Cemetery. Since then, my blog has […]

Congratulations on your new blog! I moved from the East Bay to Davis about 10 years ago and I miss it so much!

Hi Adrienne,
I just saw your blogsite posted on the Grand Fare Facebook page and had to reach out because I’m an Adrienne Oakland foodie mom, too. The only thing that would be stranger would be if you’re in Rockridge or had a kid named Enzo.
Good luck with your blog. It’s lovely.
Adrienne
Thanks so much Adrienne! Too funny….I don’t live in Rockridge but my son’s best bud at school is named Enzo :o) Appreciate the support!
